African Travel Commission Boss Welcomes Togo’s 30-Day Visa-Free Entry for Africans
The Executive Director of the African Travel Commission [ATC], Dr. Lucky Onoriode George, has welcomed the decision by Togo to grant 30-day visa-free entry to citizens of all African countries, describing the move as a major boost for intra-African tourism, trade and regional integration.
Dr. George said the policy represents a bold and progressive step toward strengthening economic cooperation and encouraging the free movement of Africans across the continent.
According to him, easier access among African nations will not only promote tourism, but also enhance cultural exchange, business opportunities and regional development.
In a major step toward African integration and regional cooperation, Togo announced that citizens of all African countries will now enjoy 30 days of visa-free entry with immediate effect.
The decision places Togo among a growing list of African nations promoting easier movement across the continent. Countries currently offering visa-free access to Africans include Rwanda, Benin, The Gambia and Seychelles, while Kenya has also eased entry requirements for most African travellers.
Government officials in Togo said the move is aimed at strengthening economic ties, boosting tourism, promoting trade and deepening African unity under the vision of a more connected continent.
Analysts say the policy could significantly improve Togo’s tourism industry by attracting more visitors from across Africa. The country, known for its vibrant culture, Atlantic coastline and bustling markets, is expected to benefit from increased business travel and regional tourism.
Travel and hospitality operators have also welcomed the announcement, noting that easier access will encourage airlines, hotels and tour operators to expand services in the country. Many believe the policy will further position Togo as an emerging travel and business destination in West Africa.
The development comes at a time when several African governments are pushing for greater intra-African mobility in line with the goals of the African Union and the African Continental Free Trade Area initiative.
Observers note that visa restrictions have long been seen as a barrier to trade, tourism and cultural exchange within Africa. By removing such barriers, countries hope to unlock stronger economic growth and stronger people-to-people connections across the continent.
Under the new policy, citizens from eligible African countries can now enter Togo without a visa and remain in the country for up to 30 days. Authorities are expected to release further guidelines regarding entry procedures and travel documentation in the coming days.
