La Campagne Tropicana Boss, Others Win African Travel Times 2015 Award
Otunba Wanle Akinboboye, founder of more than 25-year-old La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Lagos has been named the Tourism Personality for 2015 among other awardees.
Mr Lucky Onoriode George, Publisher of African Travel Times, Nigeria and West African’s Monthly Travel and Tourism Magazines made the disclosure in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
The statement which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] noted that the awards were the second edition annual award presented by the magazine.
It also named Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt as the winner of the Most Resilient Performance Award in the Hospitality Industry for the second year running.
The statement said that Holiday Inn Accra Airport, Ghana received the most Consistent Service Performance Award, while Hotel 1960, Ikeja, Lagos, received the Outstanding Come Back Award.
It said the winners of the inaugural award for 2014 were Eko Hotel & Suites that was awarded the most Supportive Travel and Tourism Organisation.
It added that ABC Transport Plc was given the Best Family-friendly Transport Company in Nigeria.
The statement said that Mrs Sally Mbanefo, Director-General, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation [NTDC] was awarded Tourism Personality of the Year 2014.
It quoted George as saying that the award was to recognise excellence in the travel and tourism sector in the country.
“The award will be extended to other African countries,’’ the statement said, adding that a genuine and respected award in the industry was long overdue.
“Asking the travelling public that lacks the technicality and experience of how the travel and tourism industry works to select the best hotel, restaurant and even the best airline in an operating environment is wrong.
“Based on the decision of our panel of industry experts, the following organisations and individuals emerged winners,” the statement quoted George as saying.
It said that the awardees were selected by professionals in the various sub-sectors which differentiated the magazine from others.
NAN reports that La Campagne Tropicana is located at Ikegan Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, off Epe Expressway from the bustling, chaotic urban sprawl of Lagos.
It’s a land of palm-fringed, white sand beaches where time slows down in sync with the rhythm of the waves that gently lap the shore.
It offers one the choice between a dip in the refreshing surf of the Atlantic Ocean on the left or the placid waters of a freshwater lake on the right.
