South African Airways Confirms Flight Suspension On Mauritius Service Due To New COVID Variant
Following the travel ban imposed by the Mauritian government on all commercial flights to and from South Africa from Monday, 29 November 21 to Friday, 31 December 21, South African Airways [SAA] will suspend flights to Mauritius with effect from Monday. The travel ban by the Mauritius government comes in the wake of a new COVID variant of concern named Omicron by the World Health Organisation.
Regarding the decision by the Mauritian government, the last SAA flight on the route will operate tomorrow [Sunday, 28 November 21.] SAA has put a bigger aircraft with a larger capacity on this route.
Customers who do not hold a neither Mauritian passport nor residency in Mauritius but want to continue to travel to Mauritius on Sunday the 28 November 2021 will be required to sign an indemnity form on departure as SAA cannot guarantee their return as per the imposed travel ban.
Customers booked to travel to Mauritius on Sunday, 28th November 2021, will be subject to additional health protocols in Mauritius. Any person who has been physically present in any of the following countries [South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini and Zimbabwe] within the last 14 days preceding the date of arrival in Mauritius will be subject to the following measures:
Passengers will be subject to a mandatory PCR test upon arrival at the Airport and should self-isolate pending receipt of the PCR result.
In case of a positive result, the positive person, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, will be admitted to a dedicated centre or a hospital under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Passengers who have obtained a negative PCR test upon arrival will be subject to close monitoring by the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Mauritius and will be subjected to a mandatory PCR test on Day 7 and Day 14 following their arrival. Passengers already in Mauritius who have been physically present in any of the six countries mentioned above within the last 14 days preceding the date of arrival in Mauritius are invited to undergo a free PCR test in any Medi-clinic or District Hospital. All concerned should show proof of travel.
