Lagos Continental Hotel Repositions, Launches Female Executive Floor

Lagos Continental Hotel, one of the leaders in providing luxury, and upscale services and amenities in corporate hospitality in the state, has re-strategised by launching a Female Executive floor.

Making this known in a press briefing Monday, March 8, 2021, in Victoria Island, Lagos, Marcel Brekelmans, General Manager of the hotel said, “What we are trying to do is to reposition the hotel. Repositioning a hotel is not always easy, because besides offering new services, and adding new additions to our amenities and facilities and our portfolio, we are also targeting a different kind of clientele”.

Brekelmans explained further that as a primarily 5-star upper luxury property that caters for the upper-class, the local, the regional, and the international business travellers, “this is the market we want to focus on”.

He said that as there is a shortage of inbound travellers coming into the country, Lagos Continental Hotel management has to diversify by finding a niche market that other hotels do not yet have, hence the launching of the Female Executive floor; a floor dedicated to the female executive traveller.

Brekelmans expatiated on the Female Executive floor by saying that after a careful study, they have come to understand that a female traveller looks for different facilities and amenities than the male traveller, this the hotel tries to bring in to satisfy those wishes, and that means extra security; keeping an extra eye out for single travelling female guest

He added that though, there is security throughout the hotel, but that for this particular traveller, they would put a female security attendant on the floor to give that additional sense of being looked after.

Giving more details of the Female Executive floor, the general manager described what obtains in the rooms, which he said is of the highest quality as they have stepped up to meet the needs of the lady-travellers.

“Our beddings are of the highest quality, but for the lady-traveller, we have stepped it up one-notch, especially for their rooms. We have an extra special range of beddings and bathroom amenities, the same for the application ladies tend to use in the bathroom, hair treatment products and everything they need to look their best during the day. These are amenities that can be found in the rooms.

“The room attendants or food and beverage attendants looking to look after this traveller are all females; so they feel comfortable when opening the door, they know it is a female attendant taking care of their needs. In addition, they would be given access to our great lounge.

“Many ladies don’t feel comfortable sitting alone in a bar drinking a glass of wine after a hard day’s work, they feel harassed, they feel looked at, they don’t feel comfortable, that’s why we offer them the opportunity to have their glass of wine in a business-like environment at our great lounge, where they can enjoy drinks, where they can enjoy a bite to eat and interact with their peers, and that is basically the principle behind the ladies executive floor, a floor for ladies by ladies”, Brekelmans said.

He revealed also that the hotel has decided that every room out of the 22 rooms [2 suites and 20 executive rooms] that would be used for the female executive traveller, would be given the name of an influential African lady; that is, the forgotten or maybe not forgotten, but not well known African influential woman.

On the doors of each of the rooms he continued, “We would put a nice sign and numbers, and in the rooms, we would have a very nicely framed picture with a write up of their achievements or why they are famous for what they have done over the years that make them the people they are known for. So, that is the last step in that process”.

Equally, Brekelmans assured that upon check-in, the ladies would be given a special check-in desk, where guests that have suites could check-in; it’s done seated rather than standing up, and that same service would be given to the guest on the ladies’ executive floor as they would be given a separate check-in desk.

While conducting the press during an inspection of the ladies’ executive floor, Ekene Nnabuihe, Director of Sales and Marketing, Lagos Continental Hotel, reiterated just like in his press release earlier, that the hotel chose to launch the executive floor today; the International Women’s Day, located at the 18th floor of the hotel to cater for the female premium guest, who may desire extra personalised feminine service and amenities.

According to him also, “The floor will feature an all-female amenity and all-female staff attendants with a dedicated check-in process. All the rooms on that floor have been softened to suit the convenience of the female guests.

“The guest will have access to our club lounge. This iconic club lounge is located on the 21st floor with captivating views of the Atlantic, offering a wide selection of complimentary amenities throughout the day. The club lounge has a separate board room, and our female executive guest will have the convenience to hold short meetings while taking advantage of the lounge’s privacy”.
